Well, the storm strikes again. My Mom can't win for losing. Her arm problem is bad enough, not to mention prior foot problems and hand, carpal tunnel problems and now... She has gout in her right foot. She started having pain Thursday evening and yes, suddenly. She bared it as long as she could and just thought it was a pinched nerve. I thought it was a broken foot or stress fracture and never thinking it would be something like this. She didn't go to church on Sunday because her pain kept increasing and was basically unable to walk. By Sunday night she couldn't walk so, Dad took her to the ER and this is what they found. They gave her a morphine shot, and other pain medicine. There isn't a whole lot they can do, but wait out this attack of gout. Please pray for her. I hate to see her in this kind of pain and especially after everything else she has had to go through in the past year and a half.
Definition:
Gout is a painful form of arthritis that usually affects the big toe. The signs and symptoms of gout are almost always acute, occurring suddenly — often at night — and without warning. They include: Intense joint pain. Gout usually affects the large joint of your big toe but can occur in your feet, ankles, knees, hands and wrists. The pain typically lasts five to 10 days and then stops. The discomfort subsides gradually over one to two weeks, leaving the joint apparently normal and pain-free. Inflammation and redness. The affected joint or joints become swollen, tender and red. The cause of gout is an inflammation in your joint resulting from an accumulation of urate crystals.
